Rep. Miller: No amendments likely on healthcare bill

A House Democratic leader strongly hinted Friday that amendments won't be allowed on the healthcare bill.

New Democratic Health Bill Strips Federal Pro-Life Protections

Yesterday, Speaker Pelosi and the Democratic Leadership introduced a new version of the "Affordable Health Care for America Act" which provides federal funds for elective abortion, reauthorizes Indian Health Care without adding the Hyde Amendment, and mandates providing information about physician-assisted suicide in certain states.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins released the following statement concerning the new proposal:

"Speaker Pelosi might as well rename her bill the 'Government Funded Abortions for America Act.' This almost 2,000 page bill, which will cost more than one trillion dollars, guts the Hyde Amendment abortion funding ban by explicitly authorizing federal funding for elective abortion funding in the government option. The bill also subsidizes health plans that cover all elective abortions.

"Speaker Pelosi's commitment to federally funded abortion is, apparently, absolute. She is ignoring the roughly 70 percent of the American people who, polls show, consistently oppose federal funding of elective abortion, which indisputably is what this new health bill does.

"In another gift to the abortion industry, she added the Indian Health provision to the bill without a permanent abortion funding ban. Such a provision passed in the Senate in the last Congress, but Speaker Pelosi is so desperate to avoid adding the Hyde Amendment to the overall health care bill that she avoided adding this provision to permanently exclude paying for abortion in this new section on Indian Health Care.

"Even more blatantly, Speaker Pelosi took out a key provision that would ensure that when patients are given information on end-of-life options it would not include physician-assisted suicide. Instead, she offered the new bill that includes end-of-life 'counseling' without ensuring that such 'counseling' will not encourage physician-assisted suicide as already occurs in Oregon and Washington.

"From womb to tomb, this legislation would use funds garnered from taxpayers to fund abortions and encourage seniors to end their lives early in states such as Oregon and Washington. Consequently, it is paramount that Members of both parties support amendments to prevent a massive new wave of federal funding for abortion, to permanently prevent abortion funding in Indian Health and to re-insert the language preventing physician assisted suicide 'counseling'."

Comprehensive List of All Tax Hikes in House Government Health Bill

Employer Mandate Excise Tax (Page 275): If an employer does not pay 72.5 percent of a single employee’s health premium (65 percent of a family employee), the employer must pay an excise tax equal to 8 percent of average wages. Small employers (measured by payroll size) have smaller payroll tax rates of 0 percent (<$500,000), 2 percent ($500,000-$585,000), 4 percent ($585,000-$670,000), and 6 percent ($670,000-$750,000).

Individual Mandate Surtax (Page 296): If an individual fails to obtain qualifying coverage, he must pay an income surtax equal to the lesser of 2.5 percent of modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) or the average premium. MAGI adds back in the foreign earned income exclusion and municipal bond interest.

Medicine Cabinet Tax (Page 324): Non-prescription medications would no longer be able to be purchased from health savings accounts (HSAs), flexible spending accounts (FSAs), or health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs). Insulin excepted.

Cap on FSAs (Page 325): FSAs would face an annual cap of $2500 (currently uncapped).

Increased Additional Tax on Non-Qualified HSA Distributions (Page 326): Non-qualified distributions from HSAs would face an additional tax of 20 percent (current law is 10 percent). This disadvantages HSAs relative to other tax-free accounts (e.g. IRAs, 401(k)s, 529 plans, etc.)

Denial of Tax Deduction for Employer Health Plans Coordinating with Medicare Part D (Page 327): This would further erode private sector participation in delivery of Medicare services.

Surtax on Individuals and Small Businesses (Page 336): Imposes an income surtax of 5.4 percent on MAGI over $500,000 ($1 million married filing jointly). MAGI adds back in the itemized deduction for margin loan interest. This would raise the top marginal tax rate in 2011 from 39.6 percent under current law to 45 percent—a new effective top rate.

Excise Tax on Medical Devices (Page 339): Imposes a new excise tax on medical device manufacturers equal to 2.5 percent of the wholesale price. It excludes retail sales and unspecified medical devices sold to the general public.

Corporate 1099-MISC Information Reporting (Page 344): Requires that 1099-MISC forms be issued to corporations as well as persons for trade or business payments. Current law limits to just persons for small business compliance complexity reasons. Also expands reporting to exchanges of property.

Delay in Worldwide Allocation of Interest (Page 345): Delays for nine years the worldwide allocation of interest, a corporate tax relief provision from the American Jobs Creation Act

Limitation on Tax Treaty Benefits for Certain Payments (Page 346): Increases taxes on U.S. employers with overseas operations looking to avoid double taxation of earnings.

Codification of the “Economic Substance Doctrine” (Page 349): Empowers the IRS to disallow a perfectly legal tax deduction or other tax relief merely because the IRS deems that the motive of the taxpayer was not primarily business-related.

Application of “More Likely Than Not” Rule (Page 357): Publicly-traded partnerships and corporations with annual gross receipts in excess of $100 million have raised standards on penalties. If there is a tax underpayment by these taxpayers, they must be able to prove that the estimated tax paid would have more likely than not been sufficient to cover final tax liability.

The reason Obama is putting off a decision on Afghanistan

If he does the right thing, does what General McCrystal is asking... BEFORE the November election, then he riles up his far-left liberally liberal base. If he decides not to send the needed soldiers, he riles up the moderates, the Independents and the Republicans and gives them more reasons to come out and vote against Democratic candidates.

Either way he will be blamed for any Democratic loses. Politically, he can't afford to make a decision before the elections.

I believe he was relieved when it turned out he had an excuse, a weak one at best, but still a hat rack he could hang his indecision on. Wouldn't surprise me to find out he pushed for the Karzai / Abdullah run-off, did some behind the scenes manipulations to get the outcome he needed.

Our soldiers, our fellow Americans fighting for us, for our country deserve a Commander in Chief who thinks more of them than he does his own political skin. Get some backbone Obama and quit playing games with the lives of our friends and families who are fighting the war you said was so critical.

AIM talks w Sen. Inhofe re: health care

Couple of Health Care Headlines

I'm crunching on a deadline, but couldn't help but peek at the headlines this morning... especially after walking on the treadmill listening to Fox & Friends, the REAL news channel.

Medicare for everyone
By Mike Soraghan
Say hello to "Medicare Part E" - as in, "Medicare for Everyone." House Democrats are looking at re-branding the public health insurance option as Medicare, an established government healthcare program that is better known than the public option.

Atlanta Area Protesters at CNN's Headquarters

From Southern Crescent Tea Party Patriots:

Protesters target media: 'Can you hear us now?'

Thousands of Americans demand mainstream media listen to outcry!

Thanks to those who traveled from the southern crescent to downtown Atlanta this past Saturday to let the media know that we want unbiased news coverage! The turnout in Atlanta is believed to be the largest in the country. For entire story, click here: WorldNet Daily.

Another article on Dem Dealin' re: Health Care

My last blog referred to Reid's efforts to bring doctors on board by promising them something they should already have... basically he says, we won't hold the double-edged sword over your head for a while if you'll smile for a real doctor photo op with Obama and friends...

Keep in mind when you read the following that the AMA represents AT MOST 17% of doctors and that many of them are leaving the group or are opposed to the AMA's stance. And, we all know AARP is nothing but a flip-flopping fawning pawn going to the one who's promising them the world... safety... protection... money... security... all lies, but hey, if you've read all the stuff that happened back when the world was sliding toward World War II, when countries made the shift to communism, socialism, dictatorships, there were always short-sited sell-outs who somehow thought their butt wouldn't be on the chopping block if they played nice... Sumbuddy be blowin' smoke and these folks are inhaling deeply.

Budget tricks rife in health reform effort

Advocates of health care reform are relying on budget manipulations to stick with President Obama's pledge to overhaul the system without adding to the deficit, critics on and off Capitol Hill say....

..."The very act of separately passing the 10-year physician-payment patch, without paying for it, before passing health care reform undermines [the Democrats'] credibility and the confidence that they will make the hard choices necessary to make sure that reform is fiscally responsible," said Maya MacGuineas, president of the bipartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.
But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, says the move is simply to address an annual problem that must be fixed to ensure doctors can treat senior citizens.

"Physicians, you know, they go into medicine to take care of people, and when they are faced with a situation where if they see a Medicare patient, they can't even pay their overhead, that doesn't speak well for our Medicare system," Mr. Reid said.

Both the American Medical Association and the AARP are lobbying hard in support of the measure.

"Those who are concerned about waiving budget requirements should recognize that the past practice of 'temporary band-aids' on the [rates] has only served to increase both the size of future cuts and the cost of subsequent interventions. That is neither responsible budget policy nor in keeping with our obligations to provide access, choice and quality care," the groups said in a letter to Congress....

Wheelin' and Dealin'

Reid is offering doctors a deal. If they'll support killing their future, hurting their patients, cutting seniors' health benefits, then he, Reid, will freeze cuts in Medicare payments.

Hmmm, let's think about how this is going to work.

The doctors are getting shafted now when it comes to Medicare, they are paying extra staff just to take care of the paperwork involved, many have stopped taking Medicare already, budget cuts across the country are delaying whatever paltry payments they receive... but Reid is going to ensure it doesn't get worse.

Oh, wait, he's not going to ensure it doesn't get worse, he's just going to freeze cuts. For now.

He can only promise to put something in the bill, he can't guarantee that 1) it'll make it through the entire process and 2) if it does, that next year they won't vote in a change.

If Reid and friends are attempting this kind of fraudulent wheelin' and dealin' with doctors, can you imagine the deals that are going on behind closed doors?

Saw the bill from the Senate this morning on Fox & Friends. 1502 pages and they haven't even begun to start adding their wish lists and "tweaking" the thing.

The "public option" is back on the table again. Ya know, now that they got Olympia Snow to sell her soul to get it onto the floor 'cause it didn't have the pubic option??? Trust ain't a commodity that goes for much in Congress.

More on Target

I just posted an article from ALIPAC about Target removing a "politically incorrect" costume. Yep, they caved.

However, the store doesn't seem to have a problem in the world trashing President Bush or Hillary Clinton.

I was shopping in Target Friday and happened to walk by our local store's Halloween card section. A card with a mask of Obama on the cover caught my attention and I had to read. You'd think that since it was Halloween the card would have been scary, but nope, it had some mushy love Obama message.

No biggie, no problem with that. He's the Prez and it's OK to have a nice Halloween card about him.

But then I looked up at the cards above.

One was a card with President Bush saying something about having a third term... open it up and it's a message about scaring you to death.

There was another trashing Hillary Clinton... two women yakking about going as a bitch for Halloween...

Another that trashed George Bush and Dick Cheney.

I was disgusted. There was not one negative, scary Obama card... not like past Halloween holidays where Target had some for both sides of the aisle, poking fun equally.

So what's going on with Target? Scared to step on Obama's toes? Scared they'll be called racist? Scared that someone will picket or come after then because they dared to be fair? Why not just have the nice card about Obama and not carry the ones trashing Bush, Cheney or Clinton?

I plan to take another trip back to the local Target and check out the cards a bit more closely. I'm also going to take a look at the Halloween costumes. If after double checking I confirm my "findings" then yours truly will not be shopping at Target, and I'll certainly be encouraging others to do the same.

If you're looking for signs our country is undergoing a sea change, that's a small one in some ways, but it's a big one in others. It seems that every day I see more and more signs that things they be a changin' in our once-great-country. It's subtle in many cases, but when you stack 'em all together, we're in HUGE trouble. We can't afford to just write off these seemingly small things, we have to stand up, make noise... peacefully, but loudly and with clarity.

Illegal Alien Costumes Are Cool for Halloween!

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC's President William Gheen is offering to conduct interviews next week, while wearing the controversial illegal alien costume recently banned by Target at the request of a few pro-illegal immigrant groups.

"The illegal alien supporting groups in America are attacking free speech once again," said Gheen. "These are the same types of people that are trying to ban Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck from television. They want to control what people can see, hear, say, or even wear for Halloween in pursuit of their open borders agenda."

Gheen has ordered his costume through Amazon.com and is encouraging others to do the same to help protect the businesses that created and still distribute the costume. Businesses that value the freedoms and protections of American citizens should be rewarded, while businesses like Target that quickly cave to radical pro-illegal alien political groups should be rebuked.

Gheen hopes this controversy will backfire on the illegal immigrant supporters, and that demand for the illegal alien costumes will rise and quickly lead to sold out inventories.

The illegal alien costumes now qualify as collector items. CNN is reporting Gheen's initial comments in reaction to this new controversy.

"The only people getting upset are the hyper-sensitive, over-politically correct, pro-amnesty, illegal alien-supporting nuts," said Gheen. "You can't attack people's freedom in this country."

Upon further reflection, Gheen had this to offer. "Why is it that a few illegal alien supporters can get a global corporation like Target to remove all illegal alien costumes from their stores with a few calls but the over two hundred million Americans constituting the over 80% of us who want illegal aliens out of America make millions of calls to Congress and the President to no avail? " asked Gheen. "If someone really wanted to dress up as an illegal alien, they should dress up like President Obama's illegal alien Aunt Zeituni Onyango in Boston and hold a welfare check instead of a fake green card!"

The illegal alien costumes causing the furor are for sale online but have been removed from Target's online store. The costumes are of a space alien in an orange prisoner's jump suit holding a fake green card with the caption "illegal alien" across the chest area. Call to Action! (Tea Party)

Greetings Fellow Patriots,

The past couple of weeks, we have put the pressure on the Senate Finance committee to let them know that we do not want the government to takeover health care. The time has come where the legislation will be voted on within the next 2 to 3 weeks and we need to turn up the heat!

One of our messages over the next week needs to be No Vote for Cloture. This means that if we can get one Senator of 60 not to vote for cloture, we can kill the bill! We have learned from one health care expert, there are 13 Senators that we have the possibility of turning and voting NO! Of these 13 Senators, two are up for reelection in 2010. The time has come for us to target and pressure these 13 Senators! Will you do your part to help convince them that this government takeover of health care is not good for the American people? You can do your part and stand shoulder to shoulder with other Patriots this week by applying pressure to these 13 Senators.

We have made this easy for you. We have broken the country into five regions and the 13 Senators into five groups. Each day, you call and email the group of Senators that is assigned to your region of the country. This way, all 13 Senators will have a constant barrage of calls and emails all week. We need to make sure they feel the pressure daily.

All of the contact information is listed below the chart. It has been highly recommended that we target the Senators' local district offices when calling, as the local offices are not used to getting pressure like the DC offices. When making your calls and sending your emails, please be sure to make four simple points:

No Government Takeover of Health Care
No Public Option
No Mandates
No Vote for Cloture

Also, please email the Chief of Staff for each Senator!
