Ripped Wright Returns... to adulation

The much-ripped Reverend Wright returned to Washington this past weekend and it was all about the love... He didn't damn our country, he kept it all about The One... oh, and God, of course.

According to Wright it seems now that Obama is to assume the office, America is once again a land of possibilities (sorry immigrants), a land that will be saved (sorry all of you who spent this weekend worshipping) and a land where all of a sudden self-reliance is the way to go (uh, sorry about that pilgrims... and all of you out there who pulled yourself up by your own bootstraps). It was all peaches and cream.
Wright went back and forth from Obama to a passage from the Gospel of John about people who overcome sickness and challenges. "No more seeing ourselves through the eyes of people who don't look like us!" he said. "How does God see us?"

In the impassioned oratory for which he is known, Wright said Obama was able, "as the Lord stepped into his story," to envision himself doing anything -- heading the Harvard Law Review, taking a U.S. Senate seat, even winning the presidency.

I would bet the Rev. Wright was crowing internally as he stepped back into his "rightful" pulpit... straight from his life of luxury... the un-repentant son coming back to preach of things non-controversial (to some) while the media spotlight still shines on him and the chosen candidate has taken the White House.

I wonder what the right Reverend Wright thinks about the fact that Obama and family haven't been going to church these past few months? Even if BHO didn't go because of his concern for church members, you'd think he would have set up a regular prayer session or private church session at his home. I bet the ministers would line up for the opportunity to pray with the President-elect and family once a week.

Ya think maybe some of the pundits were correct when they said Obama chose Wright's church because it was a good political move? Ya think maybe it bit him on the behind and almost cost him the election? Or do you think in hind-sight that the Wright issue brought out so much white-guilt that it helped him to win? I don't really want to rehash the past, so don't feel obligated to comment... we got what we got and while it's important to learn from our mistakes, I don't think this set of circumstances could ever happen again in a million years. I was just musing in type.

A year after then-candidate Barack Obama distanced himself from his controversial longtime pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright thrilled thousands of churchgoers yesterday morning in Washington, giving a sermon holding up Obama as a spiritual symbol of possibility.

Atheists' National Holiday?

By Chuck Norris

Atheists from England to the West Coast of America are stepping up their efforts this year to make a bigger antagonistic splash on the Christmas scene. From London and Washington, D.C., buses to Colorado billboards, skeptics are skewering religions with little respect to the adherents of the religions.

At the forefront is a group's government-sanctioned posting of a sign by a Nativity scene in the Capitol of Washington state (and now also in Wisconsin and Illinois): "At this season of THE WINTER SOLSTICE may reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

I am a patriot, and I believe that atheists are free to believe, speak and post whatever they want. This is America, and that's their First Amendment right. But to do so with harassment and hatred under the guise of free speech is despicable. An anti-religious poster filled with spite is in no way equal to a religious symbol, such as a Nativity scene. Where are the political correctness police when religious followers are the victims?

If such words were written against any social minority group, protests would be ubiquitous. But anti-religious bigotry is in vogue these days. Still, there is absolutely no justification for these atheists' written revile. And if they want to keep using hate-filled language against theists -- particularly Christians -- then they shouldn't be surprised when they meet up with a yuletide (written) roundhouse kick.

The future... if we're not vigilant???

This is supposed to be funny, but it's a reality that skims to close to possibilities for many! I hope that the fact that Obama is choosing the same-old-same-old political insiders for his Cabinet means that the change he promised was nothing but the empty rhetoric that we hear from politicians day after day... Then again, he could just be trying to lull us into complacency. Only time will tell what the future holds for us. I know I'm going to fight to keep our country free.

More on God, Character and Judgement

I hit the post button on that last blog just a bit faster than I should have... I had more to say.

I have been thinking about the Reverend Wright and his brand of Christianity. I've also been thinking about how difficult it is to talk about the Rev without being called a racist.

It's OK for Obama to slap at those who hold their Bibles and religion close to their hearts, but it's not OK for us to talk about a man who preaches hate simply because the color of his skin might be different than mine.

When race is used to stop people from honest discussion of events and issues, then to my way of thinking it's just a different kind of racism. When we can talk openly about things without being branded racist, then we will be a truly color-blind country.

Barack Obama gets a "pass" when he slams those who believe in God as being idiots (at least that's how I took his comment), but a white man or woman can't say they don't like the words someone speaks if they have darker skin. Stupid, silly and it's a huge hammer that is held over the heads of people. It's used to keep us from speaking out, it's used to keep John McCain's campaign from speaking out.

I have had discussions on this subject with some of my black friends. We've talked at length about the difficulties they've experienced in life because of their skin color. I grew up military, which is about the most color-blind group of individuals you can be around. I didn't know that skin color mattered to anyone until I was in my teens.

I judge a person by their character, their judgement and their actions. I expect higher character, better judgement and stellar actions from my President. If I were to take a piece of paper and start linking up actions, judgement, experience, choices, friends and associates, and other factors John McCain would leave Barack Obama in the dust.
